Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has stationed a “Modern” radar system, under which three to ten days weather forecast would be possible, reportedly.

“New radar weather system will be inaugurated soon at the PMD to improve short-range forecasting system for three to ten days,” an official from the Aviation Division revealed.

He said the country’s weather forecasting capability would experience a benchmark with the installation of this new weather surveillance radar system.

Under the said project, he said, “Establishment of Specialized Medium-Range weather Forecasting Centre (SMRFC) and Strengthening of Weather Forecasting System” sponsored by JICA, installation of weather radar and a Wind Profiler system, High-Performance Computing Cluster system had also been induced.

The new system is claimed to be capable enough for the timely prediction of accurate severe weather forecasts and warnings to the vulnerable areas of Pakistan.

“It will also be able to measure highly accurate rainfall intensity and to detect the weather situation,” an official added.

Recently, the Pakistan Meteorological Department failed to deliver timely and accurate prediction and intensity of on-going downpours and thunderstorms in Karachi.

Concerned authorities and Media channels always remain behind in issuing early precautions and announcements of upcoming rainy systems, which is crucial for the citizens of the poorly infrastructured city of Karachi, to avoid possible accidents and casualties.

Karachi is experiencing the 4th session of 2019’s Monsoon downpours, which will continue to grow overnight and influence the city around 5 to 6 am, with more intensity.

Heavy downpours reported in North Nazimabad, Sadar, Malir Cantt, Airport and Surjani Town.

Schools will remain closed tomorrow – All Sindh Private Schools Association announced.
