Policy for the Board Exams Will be Finalized This Week

Today, the meeting of all educational boards with respect to exams was inconclusive and it was agreed that a comprehensive strategy would be finalized by Friday.

On Monday, Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mehmood chaired a meeting of all educational boards held through a video link.

Soon after the meeting, the minister announced that all board exams are canceled, but some of the remaining issues will be dealt with by Friday.

On Monday, the minister took to Twitter and stated that the Ministry of Education has been in consultation with 29 boards across the country on issues arising from promotion policy among some students.

Students are asking for clarifications, especially those who were: giving composite class 12 exams, hoping to do better in 2nd year as compared to 1st year, resit exams, and private students. Earlier the minister announced Monday to respond to all queries.

However, on Monday, the minister stated

All Board exams are canceled. No confusion on that. 80% of students have no issues. There are some categories like repeaters or improvers and private students and some others whose issues need to be addressed and will be by Friday.

He further said boards called for a few more days to finalize recommendations. A full announcement will be made on all issues by Friday.

The conference of inter-provincial ministers of education last month failed to reach consensus on the reopening of educational institutions and decided to send the matter to the National Coordinating Committee (NCC).

Punjab, Balochistan, and Sindh provincial governments opposed the opening of educational institutions from June 1, however it was endorsed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The three provinces were of the opinion that the outbreak of Coronavirus could escalate and that educational institutions should remain closed. In the event of a conflict between the provinces, it was agreed that the issue would be resolved at the next National Coordinating Committee meeting.

Prime Minister Imran Khan chaired the NCC meeting agreed to keep educational institutions closed until July 15, 2020.
