This time the singer dissects her ‘ snake ‘ image from reputation and adopts butterflies and rainbows as her new insignia. Her new surprise single “Archer” turns out to be a good theme rendition. Unlike her two other singles from the album, this is a sad song that reminds us of New Year’s Day and Clean from Reputation and 1989 irrespectively.
Archer is Taylor’s way of asking her lover if she can count on him. The song comes from the complex portion of a relationship where people find out whether the other person is on the same page and whether the person is trustworthy.
The song is also amazingly honest, it feels like Taylor is reminiscing her deepest 3 am fears. With lyrics like “And all my heroes die all alone” and All the king’s horses, all the king’s men couldn’t put me together again ’cause all of my enemies started out friends,” ‘ talk about the toll years of living under the spotlight that she had accomplished. Archer Taylor is vulnerable and harmed, having been openly humiliated (Kanye West, Scooter Braun, Katy Perry) and reflecting in her song quite well.
Taylor Swift previously released two songs Me! with Brendon Urie and You Need YNTCD. LGBTQ rights and other problems such as bullying and toxic competition have been taken up by the latter.
