Aladdin winning at the Box Office

In its first weekend in theaters, Disney’s live-action remake of Aladdin is now projected to beat initial expectations after an impressive haul at the Thursday night’s box office.

After nabbing $31 million on Friday night, Guy Ritchie’s live-action Aladdin is heading for a fantastic four-day debut of $100+ million. ($7 million coming for Thursday night previews.) That’s $4 million less than last year’s long weekend tentpole’s Friday night take, Solo: A Star Wars Story which ended its four-day frame at $ 103 million but Aladdin is actually tracking that movie out.

Aladdin is a live-action adaptation of the same title movie animated by Disney in 1992.

With Mena Massoud taking the desired role of title. The film which is also starring Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine, Marwan Kenzari as Jafar, and Will Smith as the Genie filling in for Robin Williams have a stellar A Cinemascore. However, in his review, Collider’s Matt Golberg calls Aladdin “a movie that is certainly not a disaster, but does not make a slam dunk case for its own existence as well.”

Aladdin will win the weekend over the four-day Memorial Day Weekend with $107.7 million, with $86.1 million coming over its three days, according to Deadline. Initially, the film was projected to earn $ 73-85 million over the entire weekend of the holiday.  Aladdin was reportedly made with a $ 182 million production budget, not including marketing or distribution.
