Babusar Top bus crash claims 27 lives including 10 Pak Army Soldiers, 15 injured

Police said 15 others were injured in the accident near Babusar Top.

DIAMER: At least 27 people were killed on Sunday when a passenger bus rammed into a mountain in Babusar Top as it lost control on the road.

ISPR has confirmed that 10 of the victims were Pakistan Army soldiers.

According to the reporters, the passenger bus was moving from Skardu to Rawalpindi when it hit a rock and skidded off into a ravine in the Babusar Top.

However, the police is claiming that the bus crashed into a mountain while making turn at Naran’s Gati Das area, killing dozens and injuring several aboard. Moreover, the police said that the bus driver fell asleep while driving and hit a cliff.

Rescue teams were having difficulty in reaching the difficult-to-access area due to the conditions of uneven roads, which is why a helicopter was dispatched to shift the wounded to the CMH Gilgit hospital, where an emergency has been declared.

At least 15 people were injured. Among the injured were women and eight children as well. Those who were identified included Wajid Ali, Majid Ali, Abdul Rasheed, Jawad, Haseena, Zeeshan, Yasmeen, Muhammad Ali, Fida Hussain, Imran, and Usman.

The injured passengers are reportedly in critical condition, Gilgit Baltistan government spokesperson Faizullah said. He said the people travelling in the bus were residents of Gilgit.

Separately, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said Pakistan Army troops undertook the rescue and relief operation for the unfortunate bus accident at Babusar Top.

“Pakistan Army aviation helicopters have evacuated injured to CMH Gilgit for medical treatment,” the ISPR said. The bodies, including those of the 10 soldiers who lost their lives, were also shifted to CMH Gilgit, the media’s military wing added.
