With the announcement to observe the election date of the year 2018 as ‘Black Day’, PML-N led the show against the government and probably protested for not being able to rule the country again. Various gatherings were hosted by the local leaders in their respective areas and a major show was set for Maryam Nawaz in Quetta at Ayub Stadium.

She addressed the institutions of the state and urged them to not to engage with people of Pakistan for the sake of Imran Khan. She said, “People of Sindh, Baluchistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Punjab have grievances with you [institutions] so please stop supporting the incompetent prime minister because you are representatives of the people and not of the prime minister,”. She added that the country is undergoing the worst financial crisis of all times because the power of vote was not righteously used.
She also used the podium to laud the policies and efforts of Nawaz Sharif during his reign and how he set the path for glory of the country according to her.

Along with PML-N, PPP and other opposition parties also observed the ‘black day’ and several rallies and meetings were conducted all around the country. Addressing a rally in Karachi, Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that on this day, the selected government was imposed on the people of Pakistan. He added that the government is dropping inflation bombs and has made difficult for a common man to survive.

Similar protests and gatherings were conducted in all major cities of the country in which the government was brutally maligned and was blamed for every possible problem the country currently has. Topline leadership of both PML-N and PPP are either under arrest or have pending cases, all related to corruption, kickbacks, and money laundering. Besides proving alibis and proving their innocence, the criticism on the government has been their primary weapon, which does not seem to be effective anymore.
