Next Games, a Finnish developer, partnered with Netflix for a mobile game “Stranger Things” that should appeal to the fans of Pokémon Go.
The 80s cartoon-inspired game, simply called Stranger Things, is defined as a location-based puzzle RPG. According to a press release, players will be able to walk around the Upside Down and “work with fellow fans to combat their evolving evils.” Next Games uses integrations from Google Maps to allow players to explore their own neighborhood with friends.
Teemu Huuhtanen, CEO of Next Games, said in a press release that their main focus will be on delivering intense themes such as friendship and supernatural adventure to Stranger Things and translating them into snack-sized entertainment on the players’ mobile device.
Next, to developer Niantic (developer of Pokemon Go), Next Games is one of the leading players in licensed, location-based games. The team has also created The Walking Dead: Our World, which creates location-based gameplay goals using Google Maps. The Stranger Things is also totally distinct from two earlier Stranger Things games that were developed with Telltale Games. Neither came to fruition after last September the business suddenly shut down its gates.
Next Games’ Stranger Things Games is scheduled to arrive on iOS and Android in 2020. The third season of Stranger Things will hit Netflix on 4th of July, 2019.
