Earlier in June, Chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam – Fazl (JUI-F) Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman hosted an All Parties Conference to plot against the government. One of the major decisions made in the meeting was to remove Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani from his office. Later the meeting, the opposition started their homework to proceed with the said plan and a resolution of no-confidence against the sitting chairman was submitted under ‘Rule 21’ of the Rules of Procedure in Conduct of Business in the Senate.

Despite the planning from the opposition clan, Sanjrani seemed quite comfortable with the situation and commented that “I have no reservations about the resolution being submitted, I am still here and doing my job”. He further refused to resign from the office by himself. PM house also expressed full support in his favor and assured him of favorable results.

Opposition moved a step forward and nominated Mir Hasil Bizenjo from National Party (NP) for the appointment of the chairman, but after the recent meeting of government’s delegation with Maulana, the situation seems a bit vague.

Leader of the House in Senate Shibli Faraz, Chief Minster Baluchistan Jam Kamal Alyani and other leaders went to Maulana’s residence to convince him to revoke the no-confidence resolution moved against the current Chairman Senate.

Maulana argued that the major problem with this proposal is that the movement was initiated in a meeting hosted by him, however, he did not give a clear answer and remained non-committal. “Let’s see what happens next,” he added.

Earlier as a retaliative move, the government had also moved a similar resolution to rule-out Deputy Chairman Senate Saleem Mandviwalla. Besides hinting to withdraw the resolution against the Deputy Chairman, if opposition assures to do likewise, Senator Faraz also commented that the government will try to reach more opposition members to gain their support on this matter so that the political situation remains stable.
