Death warrants issued for retired Pakistan Army brigadier and a civil officer

Gen Bajwa affirms death warrants for retired brigadier and a civil officer over reconnaissance charges.

The Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa affirmed strict disciplinary action against two senior retired Army officers and one civil officer. Brigadier (R) Raja Rizwan along with Dr. Waseem Akram have been assigned death sentences and 14 years of rigorous imprisonment has been announced for Lt. General (R) Javed Iqbal.

The tough decision was made on the charges of reconnaissance/leakage of sensitive information to foreign agencies prejudice to national security. All the accused were tried under Pakistan Army Act (PAA) and Official Secret Act by Field General Court Martial (FGCM) for separate cases.

DG Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor, added that both are two different cases and there is no link or network as such. He also said that it is believed to be our success if we have identified the issue and got the people involved in it. However, the exact nature of the charges was not disclosed.

In the last two year, according to a discreet estimate, over 400 officers of different ranks have been punished by warning, caution, salary cuts, dismissal from service, etc.
