The Washington Post today published a report on American Carnage, a forthcoming Tim Alberta book detailing the Republican Party's chaos under President Donald Trump. Complete with pre-election reporting, Alberta very much got The Goods, in the sense that Trump's first-hand quotes say stuff like how he loves Christianity not for its originality, but for all the Evangelical votes he received. Alberta also seems to have exhaustively detailed pages and pages detailing repeated cases of Never-Trump Republicans eating complete crap just to cling to authority. The Post — which acquired a copy of the novel before it's published next week, opened its recounting of Alberta's work with Madeleine Westerhout's account, Trump's Oval Office executive assistant. Alberta reports that the night of the 2016 election Westerhout was "inconsolable ;" now Westerhout has reportedly said that she is doing almost anything for Trump, who calls her "my beautiful beauty.” It picks up steam from there, presenting acting chief of stack of the White House Mick Mulvaney's 2016 remarks to Alberta in which he said, "We're not going to let Donald Trump dismantle the Bill of Rights," and bemoaned how the GOP was classified as racist under President Barack Obama for its constant inquiries (and birtherism). Alberta reports three years later that Mulvaney is going around stating he's okay to let "Trump be Trump." Rep. Jim Jordan allegedly informed Alberta in 2016 that he wanted Congress to be able to "avoid creating this environment that was conducive to someone like Donald Trump becoming the nominee.” But, of course, the real juicy stuff comes from the mouths of ex-Trump enemies Sen. Ted Cruz and former House Speaker Paul Ryan. Cruz, who, along with his wife Heidi, was constantly assaulted in the primaries by Trump — reportedly informed his friends that there was "no way in hell" he would subjugate himself to Trump in front of the country, adding “history isn’t kind to the man who holds Mussolini’s jacket.”
