When we talk about employee training methods, we never talk about one specific plan or model of the realization that can be applied in every situation. If we want to understand what this strategy really means, we have to learn some basic things and clarify main terms.
In the first place, we have traditional concept, which is based on the classroom approach. This is so- called frontal concept of presentation, where we have trainers on one side and pupils (employees) on the other side. As you can see, it is very similar to the school system. Although some experts say this concept is outdated, this is still the main practice in a number of companies around the world. We do not think you should avoid this method only because it is vintage. However, try to consider all its pros and cons before implementation.
The opposite approach is a group of online employee training methods. These plans do not require classrooms, teaching boards or anything like that. The main advantage of online courses is their adaptability and wide range of customization. You can set up it whatever you want. The price of this approach can be a couple times lower that classroom based method.
These are two main groups of training that every company should involve in their regular activity plans. However, it is not all. WalkMe recommends a number of other methods that combine online and classroom approach.
For example, some companies opt for the strategy in which employees learn new skills by doing that specific job. In the Human resource circles, it is known as on-the- job trainings. The main drawback of this approach is the lack of theoretical knowledge, which is the reason why it is very popular in companies that are based mainly on the manual type of work. Of course, you can improve this tactic and add some theoretical classes.
The second method is known as job rotation. This concept is based on the practice that every employee should learn to perform different jobs within the company production process. The biggest advantages of this rotation are higher level of the motivation, wider scale of skills of every employee, new opportunities…
Finally, we have a classical job monitoring approach. Every employee or a group that works on the same task has experienced trainer or mentor who helps them to improve their skills with advises and instructions. Unlike the on-the-job trainings, in this concept mentor is not involved in the production process.
