The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has ordered to freeze assets of former Chief Minister Punjab Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif with immediate effect.
The decision was made with respect to the pending cases against him regarding assets beyond mean. Bureau has moved formal letters to concerned departments to freeze the assets of Sharif and his family including Hamza Shehbaz, Sulaiman Shehbaz, Nusrat Shehbaz, and Tehmina Durrani.
Sharif family would not be able to sale or transfer the fixed and movable assets including the following:
- 3 Estates owned by Tehmina Durrani in Haripur, and 2 estates in DHA Lahore
- 2 SUVs owned by Shehbaz Sharif
- 2 Estates in Model Town owned by Nusrat Shehbaz
- 14 estates under the ownership of Hamza and Sulaiman Shehbaz
- Family’s Assets in Ramzan Sugar Mills, European-Asian Trading Co, Madina Trading, Sharif Feed Mills, Madina Construction Co, Sharif Poultry Farm, Sharif Dairy Farm, Ramzan Energy, Sharif Milk Products, Crystal Plastics, Chiniot Power, Ag Energy Consultants, Al-Arabia Sugar
- Mills and Unitas Power.
The bureau has decided to give the Opposition Leader of the National Assembly more tough time, and frozen assets of him made by unfair sources of income might be seized. Shehbaz Sharif has also recently been accused by a British newspaper for laundering funds given as aid by the British government for earthquake victims of Pakistan.
The report accuses Shehbaz Sharif (while holding a public office as Chief Minister of Punjab) reshuffled funds received from the UK and which were eventually received in Pakistan and were shown as investments in Sharif’s owned business. The report also mentioned the unconventional growth of the assets of the family during their rule. It stated that the family was worth just £150,000 in 2003 but by 2018 their total assets had grown to about £200 million.
