Opposition parties have nominated Mir Hasil Bizenjo from National Party (NP) to be the next Chairman for Senate in order to rule out the current chairman Sadiq Sanjrani.
His name was suggested by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and he has also been a strong ally of Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) which makes him a prime choice. The mutual decision was finalized in a meeting on Thursday in which Nawaz Sharif’s approval was also taken.
On the nomination, Bizenjo thanked both the parties and said that, “I am extremely grateful for being nominated by the PML-N, I hope to deliver on the expectations of the opposition parties. Winning and losing may be part of the election process, but I already feel like I’ve won with the faith placed in me. After my nomination, I will get a lot of votes from Balochistan,”
Opposition parties had decided to remove Sadiq Sanjrani from the office of Chairman Senate in All Parties Conference (APC) held be the Chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam – Fazl (JUI-F) Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman. The parties then formed a ‘Rehbar Committee’ having representation of nine opposition parties to further execute the plan. The committee finalized the nomination after long discussion and then on Tuesday 9 July, resolution of no confidence was submitted against Sanjrani, to the secretary of the upper house.
Initial response from Sanjrani was very calm as he refused to step down from the chairmanship and he had no reservations on the said resolution. Today, after the announcement of the opposition’s nomination, Sanjrani met PM Khan, who assured him full support from the government. “We will make no-trust motion against Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani unsuccessful,” the premier said. According to sources, PTI government has planned to approach opposition parties to oppose the resolution to rule out Sanjrani.
