Former Indian skipper Rahul Dravid has been designated by The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as Head of Cricket at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). As of July 1, Dravid was likely to take over the position, but his work with India Cements caused a slight delay.
The Committee of Administrators (CoA) had asked Rahul Dravid to give up his post as Indian Cements vice president or be on leave until he completed his tenure. The batting legend will be on leave, on July 8 (Monday) India Cements disclosed.
In bridging the gap between India A and the national team, Dravid has played an important part. He has also assured a powerful bench strength, and for every feasible spot, India has a similar substitute.
BCCI said that Rahul Dravid will be leading all of the cricket-related operations including coaching, mentoring, motivating everyone engaged in the NCA. He will also work closely with coaches and define appropriate operations for coaching and growth. Under the leadership of Prithvi Shaw in Australia in 2018, Dravid had previously coached the India U19 squad that won the U19 World Cup trophy.
“Mr Dravid will oversee all cricket related activities at NCA and will be involved in mentoring, coaching, training and motivating players, coaches and support staff at the NCA,” BCCI said in a release.
“Dravid will also work closely with the National men’s and women’s Head coaches and coaches for India Developmental teams including India A, India Under 19, India Under 23 teams, in the identification of key training and development objectives,” the release added.
BCCI did not specify the tenure of Rahul Dravid’s employment. The 46-year-old will also monitor progress against these goals for the development teams and give the Senior Men and Women’s Head Coaches input on the same.
In 164 test matches, Rahul Dravid represented India and scored 13288 runs with 36 centuries and 63 fifties. He has also played 344 ODIs and hit 10,889 runs with 12 tons and 83 half centuries.
