Heart-wrenching news struck the morning when on a ceremonial day of Easter Sunday 7 bomb blast shook the Sri Lankan ground. The death toll reached 207 with more than 450 people injured. Confirmed by the respective foreign ministers, among the dead are Three UK nationals and two US-UK dual nationals One Dutch, one Chinese, one Portuguese and two Turkish nationals.

The government imposed curfew and shut down all social media immediately. No party has yet claimed the responsibility but the defense minister, Ruwan Wijewardene, said that the culprits are identified as religious extremists.

The archbishop of Colombo, Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith, called it “a very sad day” and request the government to “punish them mercilessly because only animals can behave like that”.

The government forces and separatist Tamil Tigers rebels raged for more than 26 years. According to the reports, in the previous few months, 40,000 Tamil lost their lives in ethnic clashes.
