Another spell of Monsoon to begin across Pakistan, including Karachi

Monsoon

Another spell of Monsoon rain is set to begin in multiple cities across Pakistan today on Friday.

Heavy rain is expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Abbottabad, and Mansehra. Moderate rain is expected in Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, and Gilgit Baltistan.

Karachi and Interior Sindh are also expected to receive rainfall in some areas. No severe weather system is likely to affect Karachi in the next 24 to 36 hours. Northern and eastern boundaries of Karachi might experience isolated heavy rain spell.

The rain prediction is made for Friday and Saturday.

There are threats of stormwater drains in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Hazara and Malakand flooding and land sliding in mountainous regions.

Last week, at least 12 people were killed due to electrocution and various other incidents after rain in Karachi, wreaking havoc in the metropolis and bringing life to a standstill.

The continuous downpour, recorded at almost 200 millimetres (mm) created a critical situation in Karachi. Various areas were hit with severe, hours-long power failures as heavy rain continued in the metropolis and other parts of Sindh.
