Ghulam Nabi Memon, the Additional IG Karachi, has cautioned against those selling Gutka, mawa and mainpuri, may face imprisonment for up to 10 years under section 337-J.
He said offenders arrested for drug peddling were bailed out as the chemical analysis laboratory is inactive in Sindh due to a lack of laboratory records. Memon said in each police station three DNA experts are being named.
“In the past, Rs22,000 were spent for one DNA test but these experts will do the same job and are being trained with the collaboration of the University of Karachi,” he said. He said drug addicts are also involved in street crimes. Drug addicts have also been involved in street crimes, he added.
Additional IG Karachi said that only five percent of people worry about snatching mobile phones, which benefits 95 percent of criminals who have no allegation or evidence against them. He said that searching for vehicles will now be done with the help of automatic systems rather than manually.
Memon said for the first time that assessments and interviews are being done to select SHOs and only those who completed the exams will be selected on merit as SHOs. “The merit-based appointed SHO will run the police station positively and efficiently,” he said. “For the first time, the police officials and personnel are arrested and dismissed from service.”
