Khamenei’s remarks come a day after Pakistan said it will approach the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over India’s inhuman activities in the occupied valley.
According to Iranian media, he said: “We have good relations with the government of India but we expect them to adopt a just policy towards the people of Kashmir and to avoid oppression and bullying of the people.”
According to Iranian media, the Iranian supreme leader also described the current situation in Occupied Kashmir and the disputes between Islamabad and New Delhi as a result of the colonial mindset of the British government before its pullout from the Indian Subcontinent.
“The British have intentionally inflicted this wound on that region for the continuation of clashes in (Indian-occupied) Kashmir,” he added.
The tensions in a disputed region escalated after India’s bilateral move by the BJP-driven government to overrule a 7 decades-old rule that gave the power of autonomy to the occupied and disputed Muslim-majority region of Kashmir.
The government, led by the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), also passed a bill by overruling Articles 370 and 35A, proposing the Jammu and Kashmir state be split into two union territories fully under the rules and power of New Delhi.
