WWF-Pakistan organizes an Integrated Landscape Management Workshop along the Silk Road
Together with the International Center for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) and the Ministry of National Food Security and Research, WWF-Pakistan conducted a two-day national workshop on Integrated Landscape Management along the Silk Road from 20 to 21 July: Managing Mountain Ecosystem Health at a local hotel in Islamabad.
Gilgit Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governments ‘ Forest, Agriculture, and Tourism Departments were also organizers. The objective of the regional workshop was to reinforce the structure, governance and operational procedures of Bam-e-Dunya for its long-term functioning, harmonization of frameworks and tools.
It also aimed to provide a common forum at the landscape level to discuss science and processes and share potential use of common tools for assessing, valuing, planning and tracking ecosystems in protected areas. The workshop also promoted ecotourism and addressed organic farming and trade possibilities. Rab Nawaz, Senior Program Manager, WWF-Pakistan briefed and emphasized their importance to respondents on ecosystem services.
Mountain ecosystems are both fragile and valuable, and it is affected by climate change. Therefore, managing mountains in a sustainable way are essential. Several presentations on transboundary landscapes and the difficulties and possibilities that exist have been created.
The presenters and the participants also discussed the potential of the Silk Road as a transnational economic and cultural corridor.
