A federal judge from California has restricted President Donald Trump to move military funds worth 2.5 billion USD to build the border wall in California, Arizona, and New Mexico. The case was filed by activists who claimed that the transfer of funds from the military’s account in unlawful and the project of building border walls would not be beneficial for the environment. Judge Haywood S Gilliam, Jr in Oakland heard the plea and announced the decision against President Trump.
California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, who led a 20-state coalition of attorneys general in one lawsuit said that “All President Trump has succeeded in the building is a constitutional crisis, threatening immediate harm to our state,”
In the subsequent suit, brought by the American Civil Liberties Union for the benefit of Sierra Club and the Southern Border Communities Coalition, the judge discovered that the utilization of the 2.5 billion USD for two segments of the wall was unlawful, in spite of the fact that he dismissed ecological contentions that wall development would compromise species, for example, bighorn sheep.
Trump had declared national emergency earlier in February and indicated that funds worth 6.7 billion USD from military and other sources could be diverted for the construction of the wall. He elaborated that 3.6 billion USD from military construction funds, 2.5 billion USD from Defense Department and 600 million USD from the Treasury Department’s asset forfeiture fund could be used for the project.
President Trump who is currently in Osaka, Japan, and the G29 Summit commented on the decision at a press conference. He termed the decision of the court as a disgrace. He added that “So we’re immediately appealing it and we think we’ll win the appeal, there was no reason that that should have happened. And a lot of walls is being built.”
