After the arrest of his father Asif Ali Zardari, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari came to attend the National Assembly’s session. Despite the opposition’s demand to let Bilawal speak to the house, Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri gave the floor to Railway Minister Shaikh Rasheed.
The decision started chaos in the house and opposition members gathered around the dais to protest, however, the deputy speaker assured the opposition that Bilawal will be given time to share his words after the Railway Minister. The Minster was given the house as he was mentioned in the speech earlier, by the Leader of the Opposition, Shahbaz Sharif. The annoyed deputy speaker commented on the situation that, “Do you want me to adjourn the sitting like I did last time?”
Later that session, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari conducted a press conference in which he complained that he was not allowed to speak in the assembly yet again, and demanded that the Deputy Speaker, Qasim Suri should resign from his post because of his biased attitude. He said that “I condemn the attitude of National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser and deputy speaker Qasim Suri and demand that they resign from their posts because they are not impartial — they act as an extension of the government.”
Bilawal added that he was not allowed to speak, although he is an elected representative of the people of Larkana. Shaikh Rasheed could not control himself as well and claimed that he would not let Bilawal speak if the opposition members continue to protest and don’t let him speak first.
Due to prolonged protest, the session was adjourned until tomorrow, when the financial budget for next year is to be presented.
In the press conference, Bilawal brutally criticized the federal government over the arrest of his father. He claimed that the former president presented himself for the arrest to go through a fair trial. “When the government is selected and weak, it is scared of criticism — whether the criticism is from me, Zardari, Shahbaz Sharif, Hamza Shahbaz or Manzoor Pashteen.”, he added.
