Learn FBI tactics of reading body language

Understanding the non-verbal cues makes you proof communication. It also equips you to influence the situation and mold the behavior of your audience according to your desires. Here we have collected some of the highly applicable tactics used by FBI to read the body language.

  • Crossing arm depicts blocking behavior. No, it’s a myth. FBI believe people cross their arms to soothe themselves. Even when they are talking to someone they don’t like, this doesn’t mean blocking them. This gesture reflects self-love, it is the essence of self-hug.
  • Looking away or up, touching the nose or scratching the eyebrows means deception. Wrong again. According to Former FBI agent and body language expert Joe Navarro, real espionage has nothing to do with what is shown in movies. We, humans, are lousy and all these behaviors are natural.
  • Our forehead and lips tell a lot. Well yes. Here, even FBI agrees that pressing the lips, red, long awake eyes and lines on the forehead do reflect the amount of pressure one has experienced or is experiencing.
  • Interlaced and stiff fingers signify that the person is troubled with the situation.
  • A tilted head means a relaxed body. Attention alerts the person and makes them crane their neck in response.
  • Arms Akimbo (standing with hands in ribs), rubbing hands on thighs, wiggling or crossing the legs means the person is threatened by the questions.

There is not a split second when we do not transmit something.  Choosing clothes, or the style of walking, everything differs every day according to our mood and energy. The routine does build some consistency but if you pay little attention, you can always interpret the difference
