After a man from Southern California went on a brutal stabbing spree on Wednesday night, four people are dead and two others injured. For the string of attacks, a 33-year-old person is in custody, police said.

“This is tragic. We don’t want to see tragedies like this happen, We’ve seen tragedies like this happen across the United States, but what the good point we can see out of this is that our officers responded quickly, rapidly and were able to take this guy into custody as fast as we could,” said Garden Grove Police Lt. Carl Whitney.

The deadly spree started at 4:23 p.m. Local time in Garden Grove, California, a few miles south of Anaheim, when the suspect robbed a bakery. Police said at 5:04 p.m. they discovered two people stabbed in a neighboring apartment complex.

One of those victims, according to authorities, was declared dead at the scene, while another died at the hospital.

The suspect supposedly robbed a check-cashing business at 5:40 p.m., also in Garden Grove. And then, 25 minutes later, in a Garden Grove insurance business, a woman was stabbed several times. Police said she is expected to survive.

The same suspect got into an argument with a man pumping gas at a neighboring Chevron station four minutes after robbing the insurance business. The man was stabbed with knives and a machete several times, and his nose was almost cut off, police said. He’s expected to live, though.

At 6:25 p.m., the suspect in Santa Ana reportedly robbed a 7-Eleven and stabbed an armed security guard. He took the weapon of the guard. The guard died as well, police said.

Following investigation into the 7-Eleven robbery and deadly stabbing, police found that the suspect had also earlier robbed a subway and stabbed an employee to death.

The suspect has a criminal background and lived in the apartment complex where the first two people were discovered dead, police said.
