The 66 years old US billionaire Jeffrey Epstein who was arrested on 6 July by joint action of FBI-NYPD Crimes Against Children Task Force over charges of trafficking dozens of underage girls was found injured and unconscious by guards in (MCC) Metropolitan Correctional Center’s cell. He reportedly had injuries on his neck, however, it was not confirmed if the injuries were the result of an assault or were self-administered.

According to reports, Epstein is currently under suicide watch and injuries are most likely to be self-administered. After the incident, he was moved to the hospital by the authorities. Apart from the incident, the MCC is quite famous for its high-security arrangements and notorious inmates.

His requisition was bail was rejected by the court and US District Judge Richard Berman commented that he would pose a threat to the community if his request is accepted during the trial. The billionaire was initially placed in a general wing of the jail but later, he was shifted to solitary protection as he received threats from other inmates. Usually, inmates involved in sex crimes are often given additional protection.
Inmate Nicholas Tartaglione, a former Briarcliff police officer involved in a quadruple homicide case, was considered as a suspect for the attack on Epstein and was questioned for the matter. Bruce Barket, his lawyer commented that “Any suggestion that Mr. Tartaglione assaulted anyone is a complete fabrication. This story is being leaked to retaliate against Mr. Tartaglione for complaining to the court about the deplorable conditions at the MCC,”

Epstein is accused of paying underage young girls for massage and molesting them at his homes in Florida and New York. He was also nominated under similar charges earlier in 2005 and 2008 as well, and the matter was sorted after spending 13 months in jail paying settlements.
