Fatwa Supporting Eid Prayers at Home

Darul Uloom Deoband has released a statement in support of the worldwide lockout calling on Muslims to deliver Eid prayers at home.

The institution’s spokesperson said the decision was taken to eliminate the increasing anger among India’s Muslims over offering Eid prayers.

Darul Uloom Deoband holds a dominant position in the subcontinent and this decree will support the coronavirus-stricken nation. India is the worst-hit country in South Asia, with more than 100,000 thousand positive cases.

Like India, many Muslim countries are now taking measures to resolve this issue and many Arab countries have banned the congregational prayers in their countries, including eid prayers.

In this regard, several Fatwas were released, directing Muslims to give Eid prayers, as well as the Jumma prayers at home. Especially the Arab countries take stringent steps to observe the al distance.

Saudi Arabia’s Grand Mufti released a similar fatwa Tuesday. Abdul Aziz Al Sheik ruled that Eid prayers can be offered at home under certain circumstances, such as the one currently being seen.

Saudi Grand Mufti, Abdul Aziz al-sheik, has issued a decree saying that Eid prayers can be offered at home in certain conditions.

The directive came at a time when large religious gatherings, congregational prayers including Eid namaz, and tawaf in Haram Sharif is prohibited as a measure to control the spread of the coronavirus.

Apart from Saudi Arabia, other Arab countries like Qatar and Syria have also banned the Eid ul Fitr prayer in congregation.

While speaking to Okaz, a Saudi Gazette, he said that Zakat Al-Fitr could be distributed through charitable societies, but it should be distributed before Eid.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Abdul Salam Abdullah Al-Sulaiman has also said that Eid prayer could be performed individually or in the congregation. He is a member of the Council of Senior Scholars and the Standing Committee of Fatwa.

The decision came at a time when major religious gatherings are prohibited in most Islamic countries, congregational prayers like Eid namaz. This will help to end the misunderstanding among Muslim communities in connection with congregations of Eid prayers.
