Punjab Police to Crackdown Against Kite Flyers Using Drones

Punjab police have planned to use drones as part of a province-wide crackdown on kite flyers for surveillance. They will use drones to find the culprits, tag them and arrest them.

For public places under lockdown due to the novel coronavirus, there are few opportunities for people to keep themselves entertained at home. Despite a ban on kite flying in the province, people openly breach the law with utter disregard for human life.

Numerous deaths are recorded each year as a result of accidents related to kite flying. Some of the time naive bike riders are killed as they cut their throats with glass-coated, sharp lines. Many cases of dropping from the rooftops while flying a kite or electrocution are also recorded each year while catching a kite.

A 25-year-old bike rider died last month after a stray string cut his throat down Ferozepur Avenue, Lahore’s Factory District.

Punjab Police has also planned to initiate an aggressive campaign against kite sellers in addition to using drone cameras to avoid the loss of precious lives.
