A few days ago, WhatsApp Beta’s newest update landed on the Google Play Store, and it contains big features for the popular messaging app.
Folks over at WABetainfo have found two new features called Secure Backup and Advanced Search in WhatsApp Beta version 2.20.117. Users will be able to search for relevant content via Advanced Search, including texts, audio files, videos, pictures, links, documents and more.
The app is still being created but WABetainfo could get screenshots of it.
In comparison, the Secure Backup functionality is more like a software update. This feature will allow users to secure a password to their encrypted Google Drive backups.
Those passwords would not be stored on WhatsApp or Facebook servers, so missing the password would also mean losing the backup.
New auto-download rules are also coming soon to WhatsApp to boost convenience. In WhatsApp, auto uploading can now be disabled but a potential update will disable it by default for regularly forwarded messages. Via settings, this feature can be customizable.
Where these features will roll out to the live version is unclear but we’ll update this space as soon as it does.
