Thunderstorm Alert for karachiites from the 27th/28th of August

Karachi Weather

Karachi is expected to receive heavy rainfall on Wednesday and Thursday – Pakistan Meteorological Department confirmed.

A low-pressure system coming from Gujrat (India) is going to hit the lower Sindh and Karachi. This new system before effecting coastal areas of Sindh will gain its strength by absorbing humidity from the Arabian Sea. This system will reveal its full strength from 28th to 29th of August and is likely to begin on the 27th of August, overnight.

Karachi will experience heavy downpours with isolated thunderstorms and lightning strikes.

The intensity of the upcoming system will be less than the previous system that blocked the wheel of life in the metropolis, but still it will likely to cause 50 to 80 mm rain in various regions of Karachi.

Due to upcoming downpours, few areas of Karachi are on verge of facing urban flooding again from Wednesday to Thursday.

Severe thunderstorm with furious winds are likely to exacerbate the situation, so the citizens of Karachi are advised not to travel or wander unnecessarily and complete your pending projects before the upcoming spell.

We are issuing this alert to make people refrain from repeating their mistakes again, which results in casualties and severe accidents in the poorly infrastructured city, as recorded during the last 2 spell sessions in the metropolis.

Around two dozen people lost their lives and 50 suffered injuries in rain-related incidents in Karachi as three-day monsoon showers that started before Eidul Azha wreaked havoc.

More than 200 mm of rainfall was recorded in Karachi’s Surjani Town, which broke the record of the last 35 years in Karachi.

We are repeating again, don’t repeat the same mistake twice. Stay away from electric poles and Keep your children under “House Arrest”, they won’t create a big change in 2 days by playing and roaming in the water-filled streets, under serious threats of electrocution by the mercy of K-Electric management.
