Pakistan has dragged the attention of the UN Security Council presidency towards the possible threat to regional peace and security in South Asia after the Indian step regarding occupied Kashmir and called for summoning an emergency meeting of the council to discuss the growing tensions and worsening situation.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi stated he had written a letter to the UNSC president, asking for an emergency meeting of the council to discuss India’s “illegal actions” that also “violate UN resolutions on Kashmir”.
Qureshi also called Polish Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz to share dialogues over the request for convening the UNSC convention on Kashmir.
The Polish foreign minister said a dispute between both countries could only be resolved through dialogue, as also adviced by the European Union.
There are 11 UN resolutions on Kashmir, with three specifically pertaining to the recently abolished special status of the occupied territory.
Pakistan believed that India’s unilateral action of abolishing the autonomous status of occupied Kashmir not only threatens regional peace but also a powder keg for global peace.
Qureshi had last week visited Beijing to discuss the situation with the Chinese leadership regarding Pakistan’s plan to take the issue to the Security Council. Chinese Minister Wang Yi had assured Qureshi of the full support of Pakistan, on the move.
Prime Minister Imran Khan has also warned the world that its silence on developments in Indian occupied Kashmir would push the region to share a destiny with Hitler’s move.
“The curfew, crackdown and impending genocide of Kashmiris in IOK is unfolding exactly according to RSS ideology inspired by Nazi ideology. Attempt is to change demography of Kashmir through ethnic cleansing. Question is: Will the world watch & appease as they did Hitler at Munich?” Mr Khan tweeted.
