Qurbani – Doing the right thing in the wrong way

Eid

Without any doubt, We are all animals, and what helps us to overcome the raw instincts of our more primitive, less evolved and least intelligent ancestors is our highly developed social behavior, almost all of us behave or at least tend to behave in ethical ways – The ways that don’t bother or harm other beings around us, including both Humans and animals. The reality of which, we think, would hurt others around then ultimately and certainly reflect back to haunt our own selves.

But a question is, are we really following or trying to follow the basic human instincts that make us dominating and intelligent among all existing creatures?

The answer is simple, NO, because 6 million years of complex evolutionary process didn’t make us the being, we should be. Our so-called Intelligent species is ruining this planet, posing serious threats to other species and causing psychological and physical damage to other human beings, without realizing and accepting this fact.

In honor of the willingness of Hazrat Ibrahim(A.S) to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to Allah’s command. We Muslims follow the practice of slaughtering the animals as an act of ritual sacrifice.

But are we doing the RIGHT THING in the RIGHT WAY?

Our society has a mindset of showing off, even in matters related to religion. They think that letting the blood of animals flow on the streets while slitting their throats in front of their home sweet homes is mandatory to flash their sins away. They don’t even bother to make hurdles for motorists and pedestrians, for a moment.

Let ourselves remind what Quran says.

“Their meat will not reach Allah, nor will their blood, but what reaches Him is piety from you. Thus have We subjected them to you that you may glorify Allah for that [to] which He has guided you, and give good tidings to the doers of good.” – (22:37)

Roads and streets are already filled with sewerage overflows and rainwater, following devastating Monsoon downpours in Karachi. People further added the “flavor” of blood to it. Imagine what will be going to happen in the next couple of days. We formed a breeding source for viral and bacterial diseases that are soon going to spread by air (with faster rates than other cities, as the atmosphere of Karachi is moist) and house flies.

People could have made arrangements in empty plots or grounds to refrain from these unhealthy practices. This is our city. We have a prior responsibility to make this city green and clean, for being a citizen of it. At the end of the day, no one from the outside of this planet will suffer, but we will for sure.

In order to start creating change from inside, we must realize that with our little good side, there is also a very deep dark side. And that dark side usually surpasses the good one, without even making us realize a bit. There are no specifically good and bad guys. Instead, both traits exist in a single Human Being

“The more we deny that we have a dark side, the more power it has over us.” ~ Sheryl Lee

we are here, after 6 million years of evolution, but we didn’t learn, how to behave like an intelligent species. SHAME ON ALL OF US.
