It is that time of the year when the best artists and their music videos are awarded. The nominees for this year’s Video Music Awards included performers such as Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, and newcomers such as Billie Eilish and Lil Nas X. There’s a new category of K-Pop, and fans can vote for their favorite artists for a few weeks. Here are some of the most outstanding nominees for the VMAs this year.

Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift are two of the performers with the most nominations at this year’s VMAs. With the recent album by Ariana Grande, Thank U, Next, came multiple music videos and even a collaboration with Vogue Magazine. This year Grande has ten nominations including the Best video of the year and the Year’s Artist.
Taylor Swift, the VMA legend, also won ten nominations for the award show this year. Her music videos such as “You Need to Calm Down” featured many famous celebrities such as RuPaul, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Katy Perry, Beyoncé, and Adam Rippon. Her “Me!” song featuring Brendon Urie also got nominations for Best Cinematography and Best Visual Effects.

Lil Nas has got the horses in his back and a nomination for the Video of the Year under his belt. Although “Old Town Road” was released only a few months ago, it has become an internet sensation, enjoying 16 weeks at the No. 1 spot on the “Hot 100” music chart of Billboard. In fact, the singer “Old Town Road,” Lil Nas X, picked up a few nominations from the VMAs of 2019.

MTV nominated Lil Nas X for the Year’s Song, Best New Artist, Best Collaboration, Best Hip Hop, Best Direction, Best Editing, and Best Art Direction in addition to Video of the Year. Not bad for one of the meme kings of Twitter.
Halsey returns with her nomination for Artist of the Year to her home state of New Jersey. Cardi B, Billie Eilish, Jonas Brothers, Shawn Mendes, and Ariana Grande are among the other nominees. Halsey is also nominated for her BTS song “Boy With Luv” in the category “Best Collaboration.”

The K-Pop band, BTS, has won a few nominations, including Best Art Direction, Best Collaboration, Best Choreography, and Best K-Pop, as one of the most famous performers in the world. This is the first year that a K-Pop category was included in the award show. The VMAs nominated BTS, along with artists like BlackPink, EXO, Monsta X ft. French Montana, Tomorrow X Together, NCT 127.

For her creepy and quirky music videos, Billie Eilish won a couple of nominations. “Bad Guy” has been nominated for Best Pop, Best Direction, Best Editing, and Video of the Year. For Best Cinematography, “Hostage” is nominated. “When the Over Party” has been nominated for Best Visual Effects. Billie Eilish also won the “Best New Artist” nomination.

MTV’s Video Music Awards will take place at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on August of 26, 2019, at 9 pm EDT.
