Kim Jong Un’s deceased half-brother turns out to be a CIA informant

Kim Jong Nam, half-brother of the Korean leader Kim Jong Un had links with CIA before he was assassinated in Malaysia back in 2017. Eldest son of late Korean leader Kim Jong Il, he met with the operatives of the American agency and as per the reports of the Wall Street Journal, there was a nexus between Kim Jong Nam and CIA.

He moved to Malaysia in February 2017, to meet his contact with the agency, however, this might not be the sole reason for the visit. At the Kuala Lumpur Airport, two women reportedly poisoned him by smearing his face with liquid VX, a banned chemical weapon. Siti Aisyah from Indonesia and Doan Thi Huong from Vietnam were charged for the offense, however, both were released by the Malaysian government earlier this year in March and May accordingly. Both the women stated that they thought they were part of a prank for a TV show. Aisyah was released after high-level lobbying from Jakarta, while Huong (who was sentenced to 40 months) was released early on account of good behavior.

Kim Jong Nam usually met his contacts in Singapore and Malaysia. Other than the CIA, the Journal reported that he was certainly providing information to other agencies as well including Chinese.

Kim had been living abroad for a year, which suggests that he had relatively less confidential information as he had no strong resources in Pyongyang.

Despite the meetings between President Trump and Kim Jong Un in Hanoi and Singapore last year, no fruitful dialogues were carried out to lift the US sanctions on North Korea in exchange of abandoning of its nuclear and missile programs.

The CIA has denied commenting on the report shared by the Wall Street Journal.
