Former PM Pakistan, Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif was granted a Six Week bail on 26 March 2019 on medical grounds, with the apex court ordering him to surrender before the court before the expiry of bail i.e. 07 May 2019.
A three-member bench headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa along with Justice Sajjad Ali Shah and Justice Yahya Afridi heard the review petition.
Sharif’s Lawyer, Khawaja Haris informed the court about the medical condition of his client and insisted on the extension of the bail. Further, he argued that Sharif should be allowed to travel abroad, as the required Cardiac MRI is not possible in Pakistan. He also explained that the Cardiac MRI is an alternative procedure for Angiography, which was suggested by the doctors.
Unfortunately, Haris failed to convince the court, and both the requisitions were rejected. Following the judgment, the honorable judges observed that the medical procedure which was immediately required at the time of bail has not been performed as yet. They also noted that the doctor’s comments included in the review petition do not emphasize the impossibility of the said procedure in Pakistan.
The three timed former PM is likely to visit Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail again to continue his seven years sentence in the Al-Azizia case after the expiry of his bail.
